"I'd be hard pressed to find a better white on the market at its price."
Thus spoke Alex, one of our more experienced tasters. about the 2019 Burklin-Wolf Weissburgunder, (Pinot Blanc) . I have seldom heard higher praise for a tasting wine. Of course, never have we been able to offer such a fine wine at such a low price. Several other tasters also did. It was a wine of poise and purity and will be one of my house whites this summer and fall.
Most tasters focused on the reds. Two were equal favorites. We have just over a case of each left. Stephane Aviron's Fleurie showed very well, both elegant and poised.. The rich and soft Crocus Malbec appealed to those with palates for fuller wines.
The 2018 Paul Janin Brouilly was big, fleshy, soft, rich, and satisfying, but with less finesse than the Aviron.
2017 St. Roch (Cotes du Roussillon Villages Chimeres; showed a gaminess that appealed to some but not those who liked the Crocus's more direct .fruit. The 2018 Michel Autran Vouvray displayed more secondary bottle notes that appealed to some but not those who wanted fuller fruit.
